Lemna minor

Common duckweed (Lemna minor) is a small floating freshwater plant, very widespread and ideal for beginners. It grows extremely fast and absorbs nitrates and phosphates, which helps to limit algae.
A surface floating plant, requiring no substrate. It tolerates a wide range of temperatures (15–28 °C) and pH (6.0–8.0). Moderate to strong light is enough. Caution: it can cover the entire surface and reduce the light reaching the plants below — remove the excess regularly.
It feeds on dissolved nutrients (nitrates, phosphates). Many fish (goldfish, cichlids, some characins) and invertebrates enjoy it as a plant-based supplement.
An excellent refuge plant for fry and shrimp. Very fast growth: plan to skim it off regularly. Ideal for shading a betta tank. Never release it into the wild. Note: Lemna minor is a native species in Europe and is not banned, unlike some invasive exotic floating plants.
