Environment
Suitable from 54 liters but especially for taller tanks, it grows between 18 and 28 °C, pH 6.5 to 8. Plant it in the background, taking care not to bury the crown (base of the leaves) or it may rot. It tolerates moderate light and supports rather hard water.
Feeding
A root-feeding plant, it benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate or fertilizer tablets. CO2 is not mandatory but significantly accelerates its growth. Ensure good iron supply to avoid yellowing of the leaves.
Health & common diseases
Vallisneria is a robust plant but can suffer from iron deficiency (yellowing leaves) or nutrient deficiency if the substrate is poor. Lack of light causes etiolation and slowed growth. Watch for algae deposits on the long leaves, a sign of tank imbalance (excess nutrients, inadequate lighting). To prevent these problems, maintain a nutritious substrate, moderate lighting and regular fertilization adapted to plants.
